Designed by Alessandro Mendini, when closed, "Anna Gong" is a table-top sculpture and when opened, it becomes a multi-tier cake stand that can be used at the table. Folding objects when they are in their closed positions, aren't able to perform the functions for which they were intended. In this sense, "Anna Gong" is not a folding object since when it is closed, although it might indeed cease to be a container, it takes on the aspect of an object to be admired instead.
